Rene Magritte Empire of Lights Socks

A dark street at night, against the background of a blue sky illuminated by morning light: With the paradoxical combination of day and night, René Magritte aims to create a shocking effect on the viewer that will, in his own words, "surprise and enchant. I call this power poetry." If the disturbance caused by a work of art is poetry, this painting is pure poetry. The title also aims at this effect: it is enigmatic, it does not define the image depicted, but leads the viewer to alienation from reality.
