by Susan Crawley, Leslie Paisley
An exhibition of drawings by self-taught African American artist Bill Traylor, from the collections of the High Museum of Art and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Alabama. During a prolific decade of art-making that began when he was in his eighties, Bill Traylor sat on the sidewalks of Montgomery and recorded his memories of plantation life and his observations of city life in more than 1,200 drawings. This exhibition brings together more than 60 drawings from the two most significant public collections of Traylor’s art.
