Flowering Almond Branches is from a group of several paintings done in Arles and Saint-Rémy, southern France, in 1888 and 1890. Blossoming trees were something special for van Gogh. They represented awakening and hope. He enjoyed them aesthetically and found pleasure in painting blossoming trees.
