DVD – THE OTHER MEN – A film by Michel Viotte. The Other Men is the first film to tell the tumultuous story of Western civilization’s encounters with traditional societies, and to retrace the long path to recognition of these “other men” as more than backward “primitives”. Since the discovery of the New World in the 15th century the West’s expansionist drive has profoundly marked human history. It tried to impose economic, political and religious models on traditional societies and, in most cases, the contact proved fatal.
But the imagination of these traditional people lives on in the artworks they created, now seen in the world’s great museums. Through this complex legacy, something essential comes to light – a relationship to the world that is different from ours, which our blindness prevented us from seeing for so long.
